New Laws in 2000

House bill, HB1413, with an effective date of April 27, 2000, put into law a way to settle questions of ownership of cemetery plots and interment rights. This new formality will have an impact on the old cemeteries in small towns and the informal way their trustees often did business. We now expect that even these will start requiring interment orders that affirm the ownership rights of the person requesting the burial. The sooner they let the local funeral homes know of any new procedures, the better.

New Laws in 2001

HB168 corrected a flaw pervasive in HB1413 that freed transfers of ownership from any local constraints. This bill was effective January 1, 2002. The excerpt mentioned above includes all changes through January 1, 2002.
